Upcoming Events

On December 16, 2009 the Henry's Angels team will once again serve a turkey dinner to cancer patients and their families at the Hope Lodge.  If you live locally and would like to volunteer to serve dinner, please let me know.  The patients always appreciate the conversation and friendly faces.  If you would like to donate towards the gift bags for the patients (we will be making 60 of them!), the best gift would be gift cards to Sam's Club/WalMart.  That is where I buy the items to stuff the gift bags with: mini packages of tissue, chapstick, hard candies, protein supplements/bars, etc.  I also hope to purchase some gift baskets for the caregivers.  Last year we did a drawing for gift baskets for them and it was a GREAT success.  We get most of the dinner items donated (entree and side dishes), but I will need to purchase paper products, coffee/hot chocolate, drinks, desserts etc. and I plan to purchase those at Sam's, as well.  If you live locally and would like to donate any of those items, please let me know and I will coordinate picking them up from you.  Some volunteers made baked goods for dessert last year.  The patients really enjoyed that.

Thank you for your continued support of Henry's Angels!  Many blessings to you and yours as the holiday season approaches.

God Bless,

Here is a comment from our Vice President regarding the Holiday Hope Lodge Dinner:

Getting to help with the dinner last year was really a touching experience. When you are used to getting to be home for the holidays, you forget that there are people out there fighting for their lives, undergoing treatment, just trying to survive, and that they go without many of the things we all take for granted. I've realized when you aren't well enough to go out to dinner, having people serve you a meal is a real treat..it is so touching to see what a night spent with the Hope Lodge residents means to them. I always get emotional when I think of last year's event, and the man who, on his way out, said "thank you for making me feel at home." This event is an important one that really directly makes a difference in the lives of those going through a tough time. Anyone who hasn't had the opportunity to volunteer for this event before, I definitely recommend it.
